California Community Foundation seeks a General Counsel to lead the legal function and partner with the President/CEO and Executive Leadership. The role includes governance oversight, risk management, and strategic legal guidance across charitable gifts, investments, compliance, and operations.

The GC will supervise the Corporate Paralegal, coordinate with outside counsel, and support the Board as Assistant Board Secretary, driving principled counsel and practical solutions for Los Angeles

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor and bar admission in California or eligibility for admission.
• 10+ years of experience practicing law, including nonprofit/tax-exempt work.

Responsabilités

• Serve as the Foundation's chief legal officer and strategic advisor to the President and leadership.
• Translate legal requirements into practical, mission-aligned guidance for decision-making.
• Monitor and advise on federal, state, and local laws affecting community foundations.
• Promote ethics and deliver training on legal awareness across the organization.
• Oversee governance, corporate secretary duties, and board/committee support.
• Manage outside counsel, litigation, and crisis response as needed.
• Advise on advocacy, compliance, contracts, grants, and risk management.

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
