Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City (or Des Moines) seeks an Assistant Vice President, External Relations to lead relationships with government, business, civic and community leaders, shaping policy and reputation.

You will provide strategic counsel, oversee external engagement, coordinate with Marketing & Communications, and guide executive messaging to strengthen UI Health Care's visibility at local, state, and national levels.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public administration, political science, communications, business administration, health administration, public policy, or related field (or equivalent).
• Seven+ years of progressively responsible experience in government relations, public affairs, corporate relations, or related area.
• Demonstrated success building high-level relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
• Experience developing and executing strategic initiatives in a complex, mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate enterprise external relations activities to strengthen UI Health Care’s reputation and relationships.
• Provide strategic counsel to executive leadership on external affairs, government and public affairs, stakeholder engagement, and reputation management.
• Represent UI Health Care with government officials, business and civic leaders, and other external stakeholders.
• Lead and coordinate legislative and governmental information requests with stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate responses.
• Develop and implement operating approaches and standards for coordinated external engagement.
• Identify external risks and advise leadership on responses.
