Job summary

The Chinati Foundation is seeking a Director of Development in Marfa, Texas to lead fundraising strategy, donor relations, and grant activities. This senior role reports to the Executive Director and partners with the CFO, board, and program staff to advance the museum’s mission.

You will oversee a Development team, ensure data integrity in the CRM, and help shape long‑term philanthropic growth. Key duties include donor cultivation, major gift solicitations, campaigns and events, annual giving,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in art history, arts administration, nonprofit management, business administration, communications, or related field; advanced degree or certification preferred.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising experience, including at least three years leading fundraising programs and supervising staff at a director level.
• Proven track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts ($10,000+).
• Knowledge of Texas philanthropic landscape and development operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with annual and long-term goals.
• Direct and grow the Development Department, manage staff and budgets, and supervise consultants.
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and foundations; manage donor relations and recognition.
• Oversee grants, annual giving, membership, events, and donor communications.
• Provide reports to the Executive Director and Board, and ensure accurate donor records and forecasting.
