Job summary

The State of Montana’s Department of Corrections seeks a Deputy Chief Financial Officer to lead budgeting, accounting, procurement, and contract oversight for the Office of Financial Services in Helena. This role shapes fiscal strategy, ensures internal controls, and supports offender rehabilitation with accurate financial management and transparent reporting.

You will supervise and guide teams, develop policies, and collaborate with facilities, programs and partners to safeguard public funds

Qualifications

• Knowledge of mathematical forecasting techniques for budgets and expenditures.
• Knowledge of principles of research and policy analysis.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills; diplomacy and negotiating skills.
• Budgeting and accounting skills.
• Contract management and procurement experience.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and to independently identify financial and policy issues.
• Ability to manage and complete multiple projects within constrained time limits.
• Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and other diverse written information.
• Ability to foster collaboration and provide effective leadership to staff.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, public administration, accounting, business administration, or a closely related field.
• Five years of work-related experience.
• Two years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, organize, develop, monitor, implement and evaluate the financial condition of the programs administered by the Department.
• Provide oversight of budgeting processes, including biennial budget requests and appropriation funding.
• Oversee division-level budgetary work products and the Department’s contract management and procurement activities.
