Job summary

Wake County is seeking a strategic County Attorney to provide trusted legal counsel to elected officials and County leadership. The role requires extensive public-sector law experience and the ability to navigate complex legal matters with integrity.

The ideal candidate will have a JD, 20 years of legal practice, and a deep knowledge of constitutional, federal, state, and local laws affecting municipal government. Salary ranges from $296,524 to $384,944 depending on experience.

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an accredited school of law.
Equivalent education and experience substitutions are not accepted.
20 years of professional legal experience as an attorney.
12 years of substantial knowledge of constitutional, federal, state, and local laws affecting municipal government.
12 years of experience advising and representing administrative and quasi-judicial boards and commissions.

Responsibilities

Advise elected officials and county leadership on complex legal and policy matters.
Navigate local government law, litigation, risk management, and contract negotiations.
Serve as trusted adviser to boards, commissions and senior leadership.
Provide collaborative leadership with sound judgment and integrity.
