Markel Group is seeking a Contract Surety Underwriter to join our Chicago team. The role focuses on underwriting contract bonds, marketing to build a profitable book in a designated territory, and maintaining quality business with agents and brokers.

The base salary ranges from $74,320 to $102,190 with a 20% bonus potential. Requires a Bachelor's degree and 3–4 years of experience in Contract Surety Underwriting; US work authorization is required. On-site in Chicago with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3–4 years experience in Contract Surety Underwriting.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite contract bonds adhering to Markel Surety’s underwriting philosophy, appropriately assessing the risk presented and properly managing that risk.
• Conduct all forms of marketing to strategically build a profitable book in a designated territory.
• Produce and underwrite business from assigned agents/brokers.
• Continuously manage book of business (maintains quality business).
• Direct responsibility for agency development and management, including agency visits.
• Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
• Knowledgeable in contract review including bond forms, riders, and indemnity agreements.
• Understands and executes strategies to produce quality results.
• Open to travel 20%.
