Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer, a leading water and environmental engineering firm, seeks a Communications Specialist to support our Public Outreach practice in the United States. You will develop and implement strategic communications, create newsletters, fact sheets, web content, and coordinate public meetings and stakeholder briefings.

The role requires strong writing, experience with public-facing campaigns, and ability to translate technical topics for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in communications, public outreach, public affairs, or stakeholder engagement.
• Strong writing, editing, and message development skills with ability to synthesize complex information.
• Comfort engaging directly with clients, public agencies, and diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working for water or wastewater agencies or with water/wastewater clients.
• Experience planning or supporting public meetings and community engagement activities (in person and virtual).
• Experience collaborating with designers, videographers, or web developers to produce outreach materials.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic communication plans tailored to client needs and local demographics.
• Meet with clients to understand needs and issues of concern and advise on engagement best practices.
• Engage with Hazen technical teams to translate complex engineering topics for broad audiences.
• Collaborate with the communications team to share resources and insights.
• Support public engagement activities and manage client coordination for outreach efforts.
