Job summary

City of Houston is seeking an Assistant City Controller III to perform specialized accounting procedures, prepare financial statements, and reconcile reports under the City Controller's guidance. You will liaison with departments to coordinate policies, support process improvements, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Four years of accounting/auditing experience and a Bachelor's in a related field are required; CPA/CIA preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field; CPA or CIA preferred.
• Four years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares interim and annual financial statements, schedules, reports and related work papers.
• Prepares, reviews and reconciles assigned weekly and/or monthly financial statements.
• Recommends systems improvements and alternate accounting systems.
• Oversees financial record keeping and cost control systems.
• Supervises complex accounting functions including financial analysis and statement preparation.
• Performs account analysis and corrects journal entries as needed.
• Maintains accounting records and files.
• Acts as liaison to departments in handling financial activities.
• Maintains and analyzes monthly projections and budget activity.
• Assists with resolving expenditure and revenue concerns and conducts data analyses.
• Prepare detailed reports and dashboards for management and decision-makers.
• Reviews transfers and financial statements for departments.
• Assists with implementation of revised procedures and systems.
• Assists with audits to ensure compliance with laws and standards.
• Conducts surveys related to management and financial policies.
