Browne Academy in Alexandria, VA seeks a strategic Chief Financial Officer to lead the school’s financial management, operations, HR, and facilities. Reporting to the Head of School, the CFO will partner with the Board to sustain financial health and advance the mission of the independent day school.

The ideal candidate will combine strong business acumen with collaborative leadership, equity-minded practices, and a passion for independent education.

Qualifications

• Experience leading financial strategy, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Proven ability to align financial plans with institutional priorities.
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills; effective communicator.

Responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
• Oversee business office operations, payroll, risk management, and compliance.
• Serve on senior leadership; support committees and governance.
• Oversee HR, benefits, policies, and inclusive workplace culture.
• Direct facilities, technology, and capital improvement oversight.
• Manage endowment, banking relations, audits, and compliance.
• Engage with community, faculty, families, and trustees.
