Job summary

Allegheny County Human Services in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking an Applications Architect to define system architecture, data flows, and integration patterns across our applications. You will partner with engineering, product, data, and vendor teams to design secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

You will navigate both legacy and modern systems, shaping technical direction and guiding teams toward long-term architectural health while ensuring alignment with DHS standards and best practices.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering, systems integration, or application architecture.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle databases; design integrations between systems.
• Familiarity with Apache Airflow and orchestration tools.
• Knowledge of Python/Django, React, Salesforce, or Appian.
• Understanding of CI/CD practices and cloud environments.
• Ability to communicate clearly across technical and nontechnical teams.
• Focus on balancing immediate needs with long-term architectural health.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain architectural patterns that guide DHS applications integration.
• Lead technical design for new systems, integrations, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Partner with engineering, product, and data teams to translate business needs into scalable architectures.
• Evaluate constraints and propose modernization paths for legacy and cloud-based services.
• Support orchestration and workflow automation using Airflow.
• Review solution designs for alignment with DHS standards.
• Provide architectural oversight for implementations and integration with the broader ecosystem.
• Guide teams on CI/CD workflows, reliability, and deployment best practices.
• Create system diagrams, documentation, and architectural artifacts for transparency.
• Identify risks, dependencies, and long-term impacts of architectural decisions.
• Serve as technical advisor to senior leadership on systems strategy.
