Job summary

The City of Richmond, Virginia's Department of Public Utilities seeks an Accounting Manager to oversee the general accounting team, coordinating with Finance and IT on the customer billing system and supervising staff handling transactions, reconciliations, and reporting.

This role ensures GAAP compliance, supports interim and annual financial statements, and develops standard operating procedures while training staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
• MBA or Master's in Accounting preferred.
• Five years of journey-level professional accounting experience.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience may be used.

Responsibilities

• Manage monthly and year-end closing processes and reconciliations related to accounts payable, debt and revenues.
• Provide leadership, training and supervision of staff.
• Manage division relationships.
• Initiate disciplinary action when appropriate.
• Implement and maintain proper financial controls.
• Ensure GAAP compliance in financial accounts.
• Assist with planning, reviewing, preparing and monitoring routine and special monthly and annual operations and maintenance expense.
• Assisting internal and external auditors.
