Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Story Desk Editor for WCNC in Charlotte, NC. This hybrid role blends assignment editing with digital content production to serve as the newsroom hub across streaming, digital, social and broadcast platforms.

You will lead coverage during breaking news, shape daily story planning, and curate content with MSJs, producers and photojournalists to engage the community while meeting tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of journalism experience in a local newsroom, digital production, or related role.
• Excellent writing skills and ability to produce accurate, engaging content quickly.
• Experience with newsroom CMS and digital platforms.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead breaking news coverage with accuracy, urgency and balance.
• Identify and plan stories that matter to the community using editorial judgment.
• Create and edit engaging content for digital platforms: website, mobile app and streaming.
• Guide newsroom logistics and provide editorial support for staff.
• Edit reporter content for accuracy, grammar, AP style, digital best practices.
