Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Story Desk Editor for KHOU in Houston, TX. This hybrid role blends assignment editing with digital content production to drive daily editorial execution across streaming, digital, social, and broadcast platforms.

You will lead breaking-news coverage, plan daily stories, and curate content while collaborating with MSJs, producers, and photojournalists to deliver accurate and engaging local news.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of journalism experience in a local newsroom, digital production, or related role.
• Excellent writing skills with ability to produce accurate, compelling content quickly.
• Experience with newsroom CMS tools and systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead newsroom coverage during breaking news with accuracy, urgency, and balance.
• Identify and plan stories that matter to the community using editorial judgment.
• Create and edit engaging content for website, mobile app, and streaming across platforms.
• Guide newsroom logistics and provide editorial support for reporters and producers.
• Edit reporter content for accuracy, grammar, AP style, and digital best practices.
• Enhance storytelling with graphics, video, and audience-submitted content.
