Job summary

Barrow County Board of Commissioners is seeking a maintenance supervisor responsible for overseeing teams and assisting with long-range planning. This safety-sensitive position requires a pre-employment drug test and ongoing random testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years of related work experience.
• Georgia Road Flagging Certificate.
• Georgia soil and water conservation level 1A certified personnel card.
• Valid State of Georgia Class B CDL Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Supervises staff to assign work, evaluate performance, train employees, ensure safety, and manage hiring/discipline.
• Oversees stormwater system and related public works construction, repair, and maintenance efforts.
• Operates and maintains light and heavy equipment (front-end loader, backhoe, grader, mower, tractor, truck).
• Performs administrative duties: logs, work orders, inventory.
• Assesses safety hazards and site conditions; ensures proper equipment use.
• Orders materials and prepares equipment/material specifications.
• Schedules routine equipment maintenance.
• Performs other assigned duties.

Job description

This position is responsible for providing oversight and assistance in various areas related to maintenance. Incumbents supervise staff and assist with long range planning.

This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

Essential Duties

• Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations;
• Supervises and participates in the work of personnel involved in performing stormwater system and related public works construction, repair, and maintenance projects;
• Supervises and operates light and heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, backhoe, motor grader, mower, tractor, dump truck, hand tools, and other construction equipment in the accomplishment of various department projects;
• Performs administrative duties to include maintaining logbooks, receiving, and processing work orders and maintaining inventory;
• Evaluates safety hazards and checks work sites for proper use of equipment;
• Orders materials, equipment, and supplies, and prepares specifications for equipment and materials;
• Schedules routine equipment maintenance; and
• Performs other assigned duties.

Minimum Requirements To Perform Work

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Five (5) years of related work experience;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience;
• Road Flagging Certificate;
• Georgia soil and water conservation level 1A certified personnel card; and
• Valid State of Georgia Class B CDL Driver's License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
