Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a skilled Stormwater GIS Technician to maintain the stormwater GIS database, collect data on infrastructure, and support compliance with ordinances. You will perform sampling, data entry, and field inspections under supervision.

Responsibilities include using Trimble GPS and ArcGIS to map impervious areas, process QA/QC data for NPDES permits, and assist with customer inquiries regarding stormwater issues. Strong GIS proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in environmental science, geography, biology, geology, or engineering, or related field and minimal experience with GIS, GPS, and mapping.
Strong knowledge of GIS software, data management, and reporting practices.
Ability to translate between metric and standard units and perform arithmetic computations.

Responsibilities

Identify, investigate, and eliminate illicit connections and discharges from receiving waters; draft notices of violations.
Perform water sampling programs and QA/QC data processing for permits.
Capture impervious surface data with Trimble GPS and create maps in ArcGIS for reporting and billing.
Collect and transport water quality samples; inspect landfills and maintain inspection records.
Conduct field water quality testing and educate customers on stormwater issues.
Respond to citizen complaints and coordinate with Revenue for stormwater billing issues.
Maintain SSINV inventory quality and review data from consultants.
Perform CCTV investigations of subsurface stormwater infrastructure.
