Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is hiring for a Stores/Warehouse Assistant in Missouri. The role oversees storekeeping areas, inspects and receives items, processes orders, and maintains inventory records.

You may lead staff and offenders in loading/unloading and storage, and operate forklifts and cash register as required. Qualifications include 1+ year in stores/warehouse, 3+ years in inventory management, and a high school diploma or equivalency.

Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience as a Stores/Warehouse Assistant.
  • AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency
  • Three or more years of experience maintaining inventory items and related records.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees a major storekeeping area (canteen/commodities) and assists a supply manager.
  • Receives and inspects incoming items; certifies receipts and authorizes payments.
  • Orders inventory to replenish stock; sets reorder points and lead times.
  • Monitors storage conditions for perishable goods and transfers items as needed.
  • Operates a cash register; maintains inventory records and prices items.
  • Operates forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Leads and supervises staff and offenders in loading/unloading and storage activities.

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $1.50 per hour maximum security differential ($3,120 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a maximum-security institution.

  • Oversees a majorstorekeepingarea such as the canteen operations/commissary operations/clothing storeroom/perishable food storeroom; serves as an assistant to a supply manager in the operation of a warehouse
  • Receives and unpacks incoming inventory items; inspects for quality, quantity, and conformance with specifications; rejects shipments not meeting indicated specifications; and certifies receipts in order to authorize payment to vendors; labels and places inventory items in appropriate storage areas; rotates as necessary
  • Orders inventory using established specifications to replenish stock; purchases emergency items; Developsstorekeepingmethods and procedures to ensure efficiency; establishes inventory levels and reorder points based on usage and delivery lead times to ensure adequate supply
  • Monitors temperature/humidity/other environmental factors in storage areas for perishable goods; Transfers and sells surplus property; fills requisitions; prepares items to be delivered or shipped; makes necessary transportation arrangements
  • Operates a cash register; counts money; prices items; places merchandise on shelves; maintains computerized and/or manual records of inventory items received/stored/issued/ordered/returned/ disposed/ sold; takes physical inventories to determine quantities on hand and/or reconcile records
  • Operates forklifts/pallet jacks/other material handling equipment; maintains clean and orderly storage/stores areas
  • Leads and/or supervises staff, offenders, and/or residents engaged in loading/unloading/storing/ distributing inventory items; exercises discretion and independence in the performance of responsibilities within established policies and procedures; receives general administrative direction from a Supply Manager or from another administrative supervisor; performs other related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

One or more years of experience as a Stores/Warehouse Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System;AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalencyOR

Three or more years of experience maintaining inventory items and related records;AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
