Job summary

Family Dollar in Owensboro, KY is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to oversee daily store operations, assist customers, and develop the store team.

The role emphasizes delivering strong customer service, maintaining store standards, and supporting the Store Manager with training, scheduling, and loss prevention in a fast-paced retail environment. The position is part-time and requires physical tasks such as lifting up to 55 lbs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs and perform physical tasks.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills are required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Help organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor; maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, and key communications.
• Maintain promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping (scheduling, payroll, cash deposits and receipts), and loss prevention.
• Maintain areas of the store, keeping a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to policies and safety guidelines; ensure staff follows procedures.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Maintain a positive, safe, respectful environment with customers and staff.
• Ensure cleanliness of the store, bathrooms, floors, and overall presentation.
• Other duties as assigned.
