Overview
The Storage Administrator V is a highly experienced engineer with a proven track record of delivering technical leadership in the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise backup and storage hosting services. They operate in a fast-paced environment, applying advanced expertise across Rubrik, IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM), Commvault, and large-scale storage platforms to deliver resilient, well-engineered data protection solutions. This includes translating business and technical requirements into robust architectures supporting multi‑datacenter, hybrid backup infrastructures. TheStorage Administrator Vserves as a senior technical contributor, leader, and mentor to junior engineers, significantly influencing project outcomes and platform maturity.
Our flexible/hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations are Salisbury, NC; Quincy, MA.

Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise in the architecture, engineering, and optimization of enterprise backup and storage hosting solutions across multi‑datacenter environments.
- Recommend and design components that integrate seamlessly across backup and storage domains, ensuring alignment with the enterprise architectural roadmap.
- Lead deployment of backup and recovery solutions (Rubrik, TSM, Commvault) supporting large‑scale hybrid environments and multi‑petabyte storage footprints.
- Ensure backup, recovery, and storage infrastructure solutions are delivered on time, cost‑effectively, and aligned with total cost‑of‑ownership best practices.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural diagrams to ensure operational clarity and compliance.
- Create and execute communication plans to keep business partners, application teams, and leadership informed of upcoming changes, risks, or impacts.
- Develop robust test plans, failover procedures, data‑validation scripts, and DR execution playbooks; ensure defects are tracked, resolved, and documented.
- Serve as a key liaison to communicate infrastructure changes, platform upgrades, DR events, and system maintenance to stakeholders and dependent teams.
- Ensure backup and storage operations account for business‑critical processing windows, freeze periods, major releases, and DR testing cycles.
- Conduct reviews of current backup/storage processes to identify capability gaps, modernization opportunities, and efficiencies.
- Recommend innovations and simplifications in backup architecture, storage lifecycle management, automation, and disaster recovery design.
- Build strong partnerships with application owners, infrastructure leaders, and engineering teams to ensure data protection solutions meet evolving business needs.
- Provide Tier‑3 and escalation support for backup failures, storage issues, performance bottlenecks, and complex recovery scenarios.
- Identify and lead initiatives aimed at reducing technical debt, improving platform reliability, and enhancing operational maturity.
- Develop solutions to highly complex backup, replication, and storage challenges affecting multiple environments and business units.
- Serve as a technical leader, mentoring junior engineers and influencing technical direction in backup, storage, and DR engineering practices.
- Drive and participate in cross‑functional design sessions, leading teams to strong technical conclusions while modeling accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure 24/7 operational stability of enterprise backup and storage environments, including participation in on‑call rotations and responding to critical incidents as needed.
- Partner closely with the Managed Service Provider (MSP) to ensure operational excellence across backup and storage services, driving consistent adherence to SLAs, KPIs, and performance expectations.
- Collaborate with MSP engineering and operations teams to proactively identify optimization opportunities, reduce recurring incidents, and improve platform stability, availability, and recovery outcomes.
- Lead governance, operational reviews, and continuous‑improvement discussions with MSP leadership to enhance processes, strengthen accountability, and ensure the highest levels of infrastructure resilience and uptime.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands‑on experience in enterprise‑level backup, recovery, and storage engineering roles.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration abilities.
- 5+ years of experience with Backup Technologies (Rubrik, Commvault, IBM Spectrum Protect).
- 4+ years of experience with Storage & Replication Platforms (NetApp OnTap, HPE 3PAR/Primera block storage, HPE Nimble, Fiber Channel SAN, etc.).
- 3+ years of experience with Cloud Backup Solutions (Azure Cloud Backup, Google Cloud Backup).
- 3+ years of experience in Hybrid & Enterprise Backup.
- Demonstrated ability to manage backup infrastructures supporting 3+ PB of data.
- Strong experience with multi‑datacenter backup, replication, and DR strategies.
- Advanced automation and scripting skills using PowerShell and Python.
- Comprehensive understanding of enterprise storage technologies, SAN/NAS concepts, and data protection methodologies.
- Expertise in architecting high‑availability, resilient backup and DR solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in relevant field of study, Additional trainings or certifications in relevant field of study.
- Preferred advanced certifications:
- Rubrik Certified System Administrator (RCSA)
- Commvault Certified Architect
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator
- Experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating model.
- Experience in leading teams.
- Experience in retail or grocery preferred.
ME/NC/PA/SC Salary Range: $108,880 - $163,320
IL/MA/MD/NY Salary Range: $125,200 - $187,800
