Job summary

Hy-Vee in Geneseo, IL is seeking a Stocker to keep shelves stocked, organized, and ready for customers throughout the day. You will unload trucks, rotate products, assist shoppers, and help maintain a clean store environment.

Successful candidates will be trained; the role requires ability to stand and move steadily, work with team members, and provide friendly service while following store policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; up to six months of related experience preferred.
• Ability to stand and walk frequently during shifts.
• Capacity to lift, stock shelves and assist customers as needed.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers and helping them locate items.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, and moving heavy purchases.
• Unload trucks, stock shelves, rotate products, and ensure freshness.
• Monitor for mis-picked items, stockouts, and incorrect deliveries and report issues.
• Organize stock for efficiency and clean damaged items.
• Label shelves and coordinate with scanning for system input.
• Operate the register for customer purchases when needed.
• Stock supplies including cigarettes, front-end sacks, and department supplies.
• Assist with outside maintenance and store cleanliness.
• Train new stockers on duties as required.
• Maintain Hy-Vee dress code and policies; support other store areas as needed.

What You'll Do:

No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and helping them find what they need throughout the store.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests to the team.
• Unload trucks, open containers, stock shelves, run overstock on risers, and rotate product to ensure freshness.
• Monitor for mis-picked items, product outs, and wrong deliveries, and report issues accordingly.
• Organize stock for greatest efficiency and clean and restock any damaged items.
• Tag shelves with overstock in the back room and understock drawers.
• Report new or different items to the scanning coordinator for system input.
• Operate the register for customer purchases as needed.
• Stock supplies including cigarettes, front-end sacks, and department supplies.
• Assist with outside maintenance including shoveling snow, spreading ice melt, and returning carts.
• Help with cleaning throughout the store including registers, restrooms, breakroom, and backroom.
• Train new stockers on job duties as needed.
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
• You'll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, and Service Managers.

Your Skills:

You don't need prior experience for this role! We'll happily train and support you as you grow. To be successful, you'll need to be able to:

• Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence.
• Use basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way.
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy store environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred.

Reporting Relationships:

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health and Wellness Home, and Service Managers.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Up to six months of similar or related work experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
• Exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens in pharmacy roles involving dispensing medications or administering immunizations.
• Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties.

Working Environment:

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role performed throughout the store. You may encounter daily exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes and potential electrical shock. The role involves working with and around heavy store equipment. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
