Job summary

The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is currently seeking a Sterilization Technician to join our team! In this role, the Sterilization Technician will play a vital part in supporting patient care and clinic operations by ensuring all reusable medical, dental, and surgical instruments and equipment are properly processed and maintained according to safety and infection control standards. Responsibilities include decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments and equipment used throughout the clinic. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment.

Duties
  • Strictly adheres to infection prevention and control guidelines, as specified by OSHA, AAMI, the CDC and other governing bodies.
  • Follows strict guidelines for instructions of use on the sterilization process of instruments.
  • Decontaminates and sterilizes medical supplies and instruments for all OKCIC departments.
  • Assembles, wraps and sterilizes cassettes of instruments.
  • Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
  • Restocks, labels, and maintains clinic wide instrument inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, and facility medical equipment.
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to clinical staff in a timely manner.
  • Operates steam autoclaves, keeping records of loads completed and items in loads. Maintains weekly and monthly maintenance on autoclaves to keep them running efficiently.
  • Maintain strong working/collaborative relationships with other departments to ensure flow and continuity of services.
  • Attend in-service presentations, including but not limited to infection control, patient safety, quality improvement, SDS, OSHA, AAMI and/or CDC standards.
  • Reports defective or worn/rusted instruments to the supervisor of the appropriate department. Submit warranty repairs or purchase requisition for replacement instruments.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly equipment monitoring and routine maintenance, including biological spore tests, water testing and ensures adequate functioning.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate records to remain compliant with applicable regulatory agencies (ex. instructions for use and manuals) as well as reporting occurrences immediately to supervisors.
  • Performs inspections and environmental maintenance duties, and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, and in equipment storage areas.
  • Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
  • Maintains a clean work area. Performs monthly deep cleaning of the department.
  • Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
