MyMichigan Health is seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician to prep, decontaminate, and sterilize supplies for the Operating Room and nursing units. You will assemble and disassemble instrumentation, run tests on sterilizers, and ensure timely readiness of case carts for surgical procedures.
The role requires High School Diploma or GED, compliance with infection prevention policies, and willingness to work with on-call shifts. Training in Sterile Process is provided as needed.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; performing cleaning and sterilizing duties of supplies and equipment and prepares them for use by the Hospital staff. Prepares case cart system for the Operating Room. Other functions that may be assigned.

Checks instruments for damage and cleanliness. Lubricates instruments as indicated. Assembles and disassembles instruments as needed. Assembles trays. Packages trays according to established requisitions forms using the correct packaging material. Assigns expiration dates to items as required and labels all items correctly and in a clear manner.
Documents load contents, records biological and chemical test results load all sterilizers according to established procedures, verifies the sterilizer has functioned properly by recording information in log book, and uses proper safety techniques when loading and unloading the sterilizers.
Is aware of the correct steps to take when there is a wet pack, positive biological, failed bowie-dick, and/or the sterilizer cycle aborts.
Follows all policies and procedures for the following:
Cleans sterilizer chambers.
Maintains outside surfaces of sterilizers.
Sonic washer cleaned at end of shift
Cleans loading carts.
Cleans carts according to assignment
Supply ordering:
Orders supplies from storeroom and pharmacy to meet established par levels and usage.
Orders linen from laundry.
Assists supervisor with special orders as needed.
Demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Policies:
Possesses an understanding of infection prevention and control measures designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Maintains the standards of the infection prevention and control policies.
Implements and maintains isolation techniques per policy.
Follows hand hygiene policies and utilizes personal protective equipment as required.

Must follow MyMichigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must be available for on-call work as assigned.
Must be able to communicate verbally in person, on the phone and in writing.
Frequently required to sit/stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift 25lbs.
Able to work with latex equipment or supplies.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute.
