At NARMC, our team members play an important role in supporting excellent patient care, whether they work directly with patients or behind the scenes to keep our healthcare services running safely and efficiently.Job SummaryThe Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing surgical instruments and equipment. This position helps maintain infection prevention standards, ensures supplies are organized and within expiration dates, and supports surgical services by preparing the instruments and materials needed for procedures. Accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to established infection control and sterilization procedures are essential, as properly processed instruments contribute directly to patient safety.Key ResponsibilitiesClean and decontaminate surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment according to established procedures.Assemble instrument trays, surgical packs, and specialty trays using standardized processes.Package, wrap, sterilize, and properly store instruments and equipment.Maintain clean and organized work surfaces, including monthly cleaning of autoclave walls and doors.Follow infection prevention and control procedures when handling contaminated instruments, materials, and equipment.Inspect Central Supply inventory for expiration dates and address outdated supplies according to established procedures.Maintain organized linen supplies, inspect linens for holes or damage, and coordinate repairs as needed.Label and restock racks containing surgical packs.Transport sterilized instruments to the Surgery Department as needed.Monitor Central Supply traffic and help maintain an organized, controlled work environment.Assist with equipment tracking duties as needed.Maintain awareness of supply costs, proper material handling, and workplace safety.Recognize the importance of accuracy and understand the potential patient safety consequences of errors.Perform other related duties as assigned.Job QualificationsRequired QualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to read, write, speak, and understand English.Ability to follow established procedures and maintain attention to detail.Commitment to safe handling practices, infection prevention, and accurate instrument processing.ExperiencePrevious sterile processing experience is not specified as a requirement.
