Job summary

The Hospital of Central Connecticut, part of Hartford HealthCare, seeks Sterile Products Pharmacy Technicians to support pharmacists in preparing sterile medications in a high-volume setting.

Responsibilities include sterile IV and chemotherapy prep, equipment use, environmental monitoring, and adherence to SOPs. CT registration due within 30 days of hire; National Certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in a sterile compounding environment preferred.
• High School Diploma required.
• Completion of Pharmacy Technician program preferred.
• Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred.
• Pharmacy registration with Connecticut within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares non-hazardous sterile product preparations (e.g. IV medications) adhering to department SOPs.
• Prepares hazardous sterile product preparations (e.g. chemotherapy medications) using PPE adhering to SOPs.
• Uses IV room equipment to prepare compounds in a sterile environment.
• Assists with cleaning of IV and anterooms as assigned.
• Records environmental monitoring of IV workspace as assigned.
• Restocks IV rooms with supplies meeting USP standards.
• Maintains skill and competency in sterile product preparation by completing education modules and testing.

The Sterile Products Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in the preparation of non-hazardous and hazardous (oncology) sterile medications. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

• Prepares non-hazardous sterile product preparations (e.g. IV medications) adhering to department SOPs.

• Prepares hazardous sterile product preparations (e.g. chemo therapy medications) using all appropriate personal protective equipment adhering to department SOPs.

• Properly uses all IV room equipment to prepare assigned compounds in a sterile environment.

• Assists with cleaning of IV and anterooms as assigned.

• Records all required environmental monitoring of IV workspace as assigned

• Restocks IV rooms with an appropriate amount of supplies to meet USP standards and expectations as assigned.

• Maintains skill and competency in sterile product preparation by completing required education modules and required testing.

Experience:

Prior experience in a sterile compounding environment is strongly preferred.

Education:

High School Diploma required or equivalent.

Completion of Pharmacy Technician program in preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification is strongly preferred.

Pharmacy registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection within 30 days of hire and by March 31st of each year.
