Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a Sterile Processing Technician at 37719 High Point Medical Center to ensure timely availability of sterile instrumentation for surgical procedures. This full-time role operates 3 PM to 11 PM, 40 hours per week, within the Sterile Processing Services team.

You will decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize instruments, maintain records, and deliver case carts to the OR while following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience in sterile processing preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and instrument tracking software.

Responsibilities

• Operates all department machinery and reports issues to supervisor.
• Performs manual and automated decontamination of instruments.
• Inspects instruments for cleanliness and function.
• Assembles instruments into containers per count sheets.
• Packages instruments per manufacturer's instructions.
• Performs sterilization and verifies process adequacy.
• Maintains sterilization documentation.
• Assembles case carts and delivers to the OR.
• Participates in weekday surge plan and weekend call.

Essential Functions

• Operates all department machinery and promptly reports issues to the Instrument Processing Supervisor or Lead Instrument Technician.
• Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of instruments.
• Inspects instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
• Assembles instruments into containers according to count sheets.
• Packages instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Performs sterilization and verifies adequacy of the sterilization process.
• Maintains documentation of sterilization processes.
• Stores sterile containers in identified location.
• Assembles case carts according to the picklist and deliver to the OR.
• Participates in the department's weekday surge plan and weekend call.
• Assists other team members as needed.
• Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases.

Skills/Qualifications

• Ability to operate equipment such as the steam sterilizer, low temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Proficient communication skills
• Knowledge of instrument tracking software
