Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a sterile processing technician to sterilize and decontaminate surgical instruments used in procedure rooms and clinics. Under supervision, you will set up trays and ensure readiness of equipment for daily patient care.

You will maintain instrument inventories, assist with developing procedures for sterile processing, and collaborate with clinicians to meet safety standards. A minimum of two years’ related experience and HS diploma are required.

Job Description

Under general supervision, responsible for sterilizing and decontaminating surgical instruments and equipment for use in the procedure rooms and throughout the clinics.

Responsibilities

• Sterilizes and gives routine care to clinical instruments, supplies and equipment.
• Sets up instrument trays for treatments and ensures standard trays are ready for use.
• Assembles surgical carts; tracks and maintains the total inventory of instruments, disposables, and implants.
• Performs preventive maintenance on clinic handpieces and other clinic equipment.
• Ensures proper utilization and compliance with clinic, equipment loan policies; follows up on loaned equipment.
• Assists with developing and implementing procedures and policies related to sterile processing.
• Makes recommendations to manager regarding tray setups, handpieces and equipment.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Possesses basic computer knowledge and skills (Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
• Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to multi task without losing efficiency and quality of work.
• Ability to think critically in situations where speed and sustained attention are important.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinic with a variety of personalities.
• Ability to work with a variety of patients including physically and medically compromised patients.

Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:

• Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
• Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
• Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
• Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
