Job summary

UW Medicine Harborview Medical Center is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician (HCST 2) to decontaminate, process, sterilize, and assemble complex surgical instrument arrangements for the Harborview Outpatient Surgery Center. This role supports a five-OR unit with duties including instrument transport and equipment testing, with a 40-hour work week on day shift.

Starting dates are 10/1/2025 and 11/1/2025, and the facility emphasizes patient-centered care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, and one to two years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and transport soiled instruments, case carts, basins, respiratory items, and patient equipment to the decontamination area for reprocessing.
• Assemble and set up patient equipment such as IV pumps, vacuum regulators, chest pumps, and hyper/hypothermia units; test and adjust equipment as needed.
• Load and operate semi-automatic cart washer to clean case carts, utility carts, patient chairs, etc.
• Perform sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicators.
• Load autoclave carts and sterilize surgical instrument sets and respiratory equipment.
• Inventory shelves of processed items; rotate trays and products; manage expiration dates.
• Load and unload linen carts for steam sterilization.
• Decontaminate all soiled instruments according to Procedure and Policy standards.
