Job summary

Brooks Eye Associates in Plano, TX is hiring a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) for a full-time, on-site role. The position supports ophthalmology procedures in a fast-paced office with a strong team orientation.

CST experience and ophthalmology exposure are preferred, with no weekends or on-call requirements. The CST will perform cleaning, sterilization, instrument prep, and inventory management while collaborating closely with surgeons and clinical staff to ensure patient safety and

• Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician/Surgical Processing program preferred.
• Prior experience in sterile processing or surgical services preferred.
• Experience with surgical instrumentation, autoclaves, decontamination, sterilization, and instrument reprocessing required.
• Ophthalmology or ambulatory surgery center experience preferred.
• Experience with inventory management and instrument tracking preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment per guidelines and safety procedures.
• Maintain inventory of instruments and sterile supplies for daily cases.

SUMMARY

Surgery Center 121 is now hiring a Certified Surgical Technologist. This is an exceptional opportunity for a CST seeking professional growth and personal fulfillment in a team-oriented, fast-paced, friendly work environment. Surgery Center 121 specializes in Ophthalmology; Ophthalmology experience is preferred.

POSITION

Full-Time, Monday - Thursday averaging 30hrs/week which will vary depending on case load. 6am arrival time.

No weekends, no holidays, no call!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform thorough cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and established safety procedures.
• Perform required daily equipment checks and routine biological/bacteriological testing and accurately document results.
• Immediately report any failed or positive sterilization test results, equipment malfunctions, or other safety concerns to management.
• Inspect surgical instruments for cleanliness, functionality, damage, or defects and promptly report instruments requiring repair or replacement.
• Prepare and organize surgical instrument trays and supplies according to scheduled surgical cases and surgeon-specific requirements.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of instruments, sterile supplies, and other surgical materials to ensure adequate availability for daily cases.
• Monitor sterile supply expiration dates and ensure proper rotation, labeling, storage, and distribution of supplies.
• Maintain appropriate separation and traffic control between decontamination/dirty and clean sterile processing areas.
• Safely handle contaminated instruments, sharps, infectious waste, and other materials in accordance with infection control and safety procedures.
• Restock instrument sets, supplies, and sterile processing areas to maintain readiness for scheduled procedures.
• Maintain accurate sterilization, quality control, inventory, and equipment records.
• Keep sterile processing areas clean, organized, and compliant with established infection prevention and safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, clinical staff, and leadership regarding instrument availability, case needs, shortages, or equipment concerns.
• Anticipate upcoming operating room needs and coordinate instrument and supply preparation based on the daily surgical schedule and anticipated case volume.
• Assist in maintaining and updating surgeon-specific preference lists and instrument requirements.
• Ensure instruments and supplies are available and properly prepared prior to each surgical procedure.
• Follow all applicable infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in maintaining a safe, efficient, and organized surgical environment.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail and consistently prioritize patient safety, sterility, and quality assurance.
• Work collaboratively as part of a fast-paced surgical team while maintaining professionalism and excellent communication.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician/Surgical Processing program preferred.
• Prior experience in sterile processing, operating room support, or surgical services preferred.
• Experience with surgical instrumentation, autoclaves, decontamination, sterilization, and instrument reprocessing required.
• Ophthalmology or ambulatory surgery center experience preferred.
• Experience with inventory management, instrument tracking, supply rotation, and maintaining sterile processing documentation preferred.
• Previous experience working in a fast-paced surgical environment with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet daily case schedules preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Medium physical effort; lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. occasionally and/or 20 lbs. frequently
• Frequent standing, walking, and sitting
• Frequent use of hands for handling, inspecting, assembling, and processing instruments
• Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
• Requires close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
• Must be able to hear equipment alarms, coworkers, and management instructions
