Overview

QuarterLine (QL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Sterile Processing Technician to join our dynamic healthcare team at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) continuous years of recent experience working as a sterile processing technician in an SPD setting, including instrument decontamination, assembly and preparation, and sterilization. Ability to operate and troubleshoot processing equipment such as washer‑disinfectors, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and automatic endoscope reprocessors.

Knowledgeable in surgical instrument specialties: general surgery, urology, robotics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, eye surgery, ENT, GYN, vascular, and orthopedic surgery.

Duty Location

Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI. No telework allowed.

Duty Hours
  • Hours of performance may include shift work with rotating 8, 10, 12‑hour and part‑time shifts, 7 days per week, including nights, weekends, and federal holidays. Work will not exceed 12 hours in a 24‑hour period and 80 hours in any consecutive 14‑day period.
  • Available shift schedule (Sunday–Saturday):
    • 1st Shift: 0645–1515
    • 11 Shift: 1045–1915
    • 2nd Shift: 1445–2315
    • 3rd Shift: 2245–0715
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
  • Perform sterile processing tasks equivalent to those of military operating room technicians or Government Civil Service Sterile Processing Technicians with similar experience and duty assignments.
  • Decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize instruments for general surgery, robotics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, OMFS, vascular, and orthopedic surgery.
  • Prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgery as necessary, using various sterilization methods.
  • Monitor and track surgical instruments using computer‑based instrument tracking log/system.
  • Record‑keep all sterilization processes.
  • Check expiration dates on sterile supplies, remove outdated items, and rotate stock on a “first in, first out” basis.
  • Maintain and restock the CPR cart exchange program, including transportation of CPR carts in emergency situations, and maintain supplies and documentation.
  • Assemble and disassemble instrumentation and equipment per manufacturer’s instructions for use (MIFU).
  • Perform daily and weekly cleanings and functional tests on all equipment.
  • Participate in orientation and training of 68D students, new employees, medical interns, nursing students, residents, and other medical training programs.
  • Assist in the orientation of staff members and/or training of 68D students as needed.
  • Carry paging and/or other electronic communication devices used by operating room personnel.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree/Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification(s):
    • Completion of a sterile processing/supply training course and current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management or the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (certification cards must display the AHA or Red Cross; web‑based classes are not acceptable).
  • Experience: 3 continuous years (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) as a sterile processing technician in an SPD setting.
  • Legal Authorization: U.S. citizen.
Additional Information
  • Occupational Health: required documentation of physical testing or physical examination.
  • Tuberculosis screening required for all contract workers.
  • Health requirements: documentation certifying immunizations, annual vaccinations, and physical examination when required at initial placement.
