Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Nashville, TN is seeking a medical sterilization technician to support the Sterile Processing Service (SPS).

The role focuses on decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and disinfection of reusable medical devices (RMD) in accordance with SOPs. The incumbent will rotate through decontamination, tray assembly, and inventory processing, adhering to safety standards and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings.
• Understanding of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and medical conditions.
• Knowledge of sterility principles related to instrumentation.
• Ability to read and interpret written instructions and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Rotates through sterile processing responsibilities in SPS: decontamination, basic and complex tray assembly, and reusable medical equipment processing.
• Assembles surgical trays and instrumentation packs for operating rooms.
• Interprets instrumentation needs for individual cases and uses computer systems for picking lists.
• Works set schedules including evenings/nights/weekends/holidays.
• Maintains clean, controlled environments and adheres to SOPs and safety standards.
