Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician II to perform cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and safe handling of instruments and equipment. The role requires adherence to SOPs, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently within safety standards.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and 18 months of healthcare experience, plus certifications such as CRCST or equivalent within 1 year of hire.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 18 months of healthcare experience.
• Licenses and Certifications: Technical Certification upon hire and a Scope, Specialty, or Leadership Certification within 12 months (CRCST/CER/CIS/CHL or CBSPD equivalents).

Responsibilities

• Understand SOPs for sterile processing tasks and safety protocols.
• Work in decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case pick, and high level disinfection.
• Unload and prepare instruments for decontamination per procedures and manufacturers' instructions.
• Safely handle instruments and report issues to supervisor.
• Select proper sterilization methods and ensure correct packaging.
• Maintain sterilization records and label items per safety standards.
• Operate equipment (Washer, Ultrasonic, Sterilizer).
• Participate in biological monitoring/testing and escalate issues when needed.

JOB DUTIES

• Proven understanding of departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sterile processing tasks and safety protocols.
• Proven ability to work in all areas within department which includes but not limited to decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case pick, and high level disinfection.
• Unload and prepare instruments, supplies, and equipment for decontamination following departmental procedures and manufacturers instructions for use Safely handles instruments, removing damaged or malfunctioning items and reporting issues to supervisor.
• Select proper sterilization methods for different items, ensuring correct assembly, packaging, and preparation
• Maintain accurate sterilization records, label sterilized items, and ensure compliance with safety standards
• Proven ability to operate various pieces of equipment (Washer, Ultrasonic, Sterilizer)
• Participate in biological monitoring/testing, reporting positive results, and escalating issues to leadership
