Job summary

Loyola Medicine, a member of Trinity Health, is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for the evening shift in the Chicago area. The role involves decontaminating instruments, assembling trays, and sterilizing equipment for prescribed procedures within a high‑pressure environment.

You will assemble case carts for various surgical procedures, document BI readings, and ensure accurate load documentation. On-call duty is required, with competitive benefits from day one and career development

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required. Preferred: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
• On-Call is required
• Less than one year of previous job-related experience required. Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates instruments, assembles trays and/or equipment, and sterilizes instrument trays for prescribed patient procedures.
• Assembles case carts for specific surgical procedures and processes a variety of high pressure instrument trays, powered tools and implants as needed.
• Sterilizes instruments and documents all items in each sterilization load, including BI readouts and peel packs; reports problems to supervisor and reprocesses as needed

What you’ll do:

• The Certified Sterile Processing Technician decontaminates instruments, assembles trays and/or equipment, and sterilizes instrument trays for prescribed patient procedures.

• Assembles case carts for specific surgical procedures. In response to the time-critical needs of the surgeon, nurses and OR team members, the SRP CP Technician processes a variety of highly specialized surgical instrument trays and powered surgical tools and implant devices, often in high pressure situations engendered by the life-threatening nature of unexpected trauma or technologically advanced surgical procedures.

• Sterilizes instruments including quarantining instruments until the biological indicator (BI) is read negative. Documents information correctly regarding the BIs. Correctly documents all items in each sterilization load, including peel packs and trays. Informs manager, supervisor, or lead when there is a problem with a sterilization load and reprocesses as needed.

What you'll need for this job:

• High School Diploma required. Preferred: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education

• Less than one year of previous job-related experience required. Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

• On-Call is required

Compensation:

Pay Range: $16.49-$24.44 per hour

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
