Job summary

Billings Clinic Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech I to ensure sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly maintained, decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, packaged, stored, and distributed throughout the hospital. This role serves as a resource to sterile processing customers on Main Campus and in the Region. Shift: Evening, Nights, Weekend.

Full-Time (.75 or greater). Starting Wage DOE: $17.85 - 22.31 per hour; may be eligible for a $2,500 sign-on incentive.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CRCST certification required within eighteen (18) months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes instruments to validated standards.
• Decontaminates instruments and equipment per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintains clean, organized Sterile Processing areas and documents sterilization loads.

Education

STERILE PROCESSING SERVICES (BILLINGS CLINIC HOSPITAL)

Hours per Pay Period: 1.00 = 80 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE:$17.85 - 22.31

This position is responsible forinsuring that all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are properlymaintained, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored,distributed, and tracked in a quality/timely manner throughout the hospital. Serves as a resource to sterile processing customers,both on Main Campus and in the Region.

Essential Job Functions

• Supports and models behaviors consistent with BillingsClinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and serviceexpectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmentalrequirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental andoutside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patientsafety or job performance.
• Decontamination: Identifies and uses appropriatemethods as identified by manufacturer’s guidelines to sort, disassemble, decontaminate,clean, and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment. Shows proficiency in operating andtroubleshooting cleaning equipment.Appropriately handles garbage, soiled linen, and biohazardmaterials. Maintains safety standardsand ongoing departmental competencies and educational requirements.
• Instrument assembly and packaging: Identifies and inspects instruments forcleanliness and functionality.Correctly assembles instruments and packages them appropriately to setstandards as it relates to validated sterilization method. Must be familiar with the various packagingmaterials available for sterilization and must be able to select theappropriate packaging for the item and sterilization process. Must be able tocorrectly identify a multitude of different instruments and how to properlyprocess them
• Sterilization/High Level Disinfection (HLD): Selects appropriate sterilization orhigh-level disinfection methods.Identifies and follows correct principles of sterilization/HLD. Properly documents and verifiessterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of thesterilization process. Must be able tounderstand the advantages and limitations of each sterilization method andbe able to demonstrate competency in using all equipment used forsterilization and HLD. Correctlyidentifies when and how to safely use different sterilization/HLD methodsavailable.
• Understands and utilizes established principles and procedures that are required to insurethat the sterilization process will be effective, as defined by regulatoryagencies. Maintains proficiency in allassigned work areas within Sterile Processing, and maintains cleanliness andorder to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
• Identifies new or unfamiliar equipment to determineproper reprocessing procedures, and demonstrates ability to use available resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Certification in sterile processing, CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) through IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management)or equivalent is required within eighteen (18) months of hire.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
