Job summary

South Texas Health System is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to manage the full reprocessing cycle for surgical instruments. You will disassemble, decontaminate, disinfect, inspect, test, assemble, package, label and sterilize equipment, while operating ultrasonic cleaners and sterilizers.

You will also support quality monitoring, inventory, and case cart preparation, and participate in mentoring new staff to uphold a standard of excellence in patient care.

Qualifications

  • Twelve months minimum in Sterile Processing.
  • Proficiency with Instrument management software (Censis, OneSource) and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Manual dexterity to assemble/disassemble complex instrumentation.
  • English fluency in spoken and written due to technical guidelines.

Job description

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages the reprocessing cycle for surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging, labeling, high level disinfection, and sterilization. Cares for and operates ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment. Completes quality monitoring and documentation. Picks supplies and instruments to prepare case carts for surgery. Performs quality assurance activities. Assists with supply inventory management and clinic instrument rounds. Assists with mentoring, training, coaching, and role modeling for new Sterile Processing Techs. Performs all duties with a commitment to excellence, quality, and customer service.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Twelve months minimum in Sterile Processing.

2. Various applications related to Instrument management (Censis, OneSource), Microsoft office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).

3. Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation.

4. Due to the highly technical nature, especially related to interpretation of manufacturer’s Instructions For Use (IFU), ALL SPD staff must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Education / Licensure

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

1. Education: High School diploma, GED or Higher Education required.

2. License/Certification: Certification as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)) is required. Certification must be maintained.
