Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a dedicated Sterilization Technician to support decontamination, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

You will also decontaminate and high-level disinfect Endoscopes, handle instrument pick-up and delivery to doctor offices, and assist OR staff by providing timely instrument logistics.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Organized with attention to detail.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; frequent lifting 28 lbs and pushing/pulling 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and patient care equipment per department policies and manufacturer instructions; eligible for both outpatient and inpatient areas.
• Decontaminate and High-Level Disinfect Endoscopes per hospital policies and manufacturer instructions.
• Provide operational support to the OR by responding quickly to patient care needs.
• Operate washer, steam sterilizer, low temp sterilizer, and OER testing per procedures.

Job description

Responsible for decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation. As well as the decontamination and high level disinfection of Endoscopes. Provides pick-up and delivery of doctor office instruments.

Major Responsibilities

• a. Processes (decontaminate, assemble, sterilize) surgical instrument and patient care equipment according to departmental policies and procedures and manufacturer instructions for use. Able to perform duties in both the outpatient and inpatient surgical areas.
• b. Processes (decontaminate, HLD) Endoscopes according to hospital policies and procedures and manufacturer Instructions.
• c. Provides operational support to the OR by responding rapidly and effectively to patient care needs.
• d. Performs all washer, steam sterilizer, low temp sterilizer, and OER testing per departmental policies and procedures and manufacturer instructions for use.
• e. Follows departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety/environment of care programs and infection control standards. Reports any equipment failures, risk or safety issues to department director or designee in a timely fashion.
• f. Performs rounds to retrieve equipment/instruments from hospital departments. Provides pick up/delivery of instruments for doctor offices. May assist with preparing case carts for the Outpatient Operating Rooms. Assists in locating instruments/equipment as needed. Retrieves/restocks/returns code and specialty carts/trays. Monitors non controlled pharmaceutical agents.
• g. Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with regulatory requirements and hospital policy.
• h. Attends mandatory staff meetings and in services; Responsible to stay up to date with departmental communications and required annual and periodic competencies.
• i. May participate in the help of new staff orientation.
• j. Completes other daily tasks as requested and assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent - Years of Experience - No formal requirement

• Frequently lifts 28 lbs and push/pulls equipment with 25 lbs force Constant standing.

Pay Range: $25.00 - $37.15 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
