Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham is seeking a Sterile Processing Supervisor to oversee daily department operations and ensure efficient reprocessing of sterile instrumentation. You will lead a team, optimize workflows, and ensure instrument sets are cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for surgery. The role collaborates with OR staff to maintain high-quality patient care.

The shift runs 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., with benefits including education assistance, generous PTO, parental leave, and access to PSLF

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification.
• If not certified, CSPM certification must be obtained within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily operations of the department.
• Demonstrate team leadership; identify improvement opportunities and assist in process development.
• Provide services to any area requiring reprocessing of sterile instrumentation.
• Clean, assemble and sterilize instrument sets for surgery.
• Assemble and organize case carts for surgery.
• Stock supplies and perform biological testing of sterilizers.
• Operate all sterilization equipment.
• Coach and mentor new employees; manage daily assignments and breaks.
• Resolve conflicts between OR and central sterile processing; develop improvements with nurse manager.
