The Charleston VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) – Quality Assurance. This role oversees activities across Decontamination, Processing, Instrument Preparation, GI Lab, OR Core Area, and Distribution to ensure high‑quality support for patient care.

Qualifications include US citizenship, English proficiency, six months of relevant experience, and one year of healthcare‑related education.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience that demonstrates ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work.
• One year above high school that included at least six semester hours in health-care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, and operating room and surgical technician courses or other courses related to the position.

Responsibilities

• Oversees SPS functions across Decontamination, Processing, Instrument Preparation, GI Lab, OR Core, and Distribution.
• Ensures procedures are followed and that items are safe for use, delivered on time to the proper location, and in the right condition for VA patient care.
• Reviews completed work to assure that supervisor‑SPS instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met to assess quality and quantity of work.
• Prepares various quality assurance reports for higher‑level supervisors.
• Responsible for quality management of reprocessing activities, training, competency assessment, and enhancing patient flow through operating rooms and procedural areas, and assists in succession planning.
• Plans, develops, directs and maintains a quality control program ensuring product quality assurance through random sampling, biological testing, product assessment, and related means, providing QA reports upon need.
• Audits all locations where critical and semi‑critical RMD is utilized, reprocessed, and stored to include documentation to assure compliance with SPS/RMD directives, handbooks, and industry standards such as AAMI and IRO.
