Mercy STL Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech for full-time night shift. You will work in decontamination, processing and sterilization, following Manufacturer's Instructions for Use and Mercy standards. Responsibilities include instrument inspection, assembly and documentation.

Must have a high school diploma and basic computer skills. The role requires PPE use and collaboration across departments in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

Overview

• The decontamination process involves disassembly of instrumentation, robust manually cleaning with multiple steps and various cleaning agents as well as the use of ultrasonic and washer disinfectors.
• Prepare instrumentation for use by inspecting, function testing and assembling, labeling and preparing for sterilization. Equipment is also assembled and/or disassembled for use such as cords rolled neatly and/or other equipment separated into components.
• Knows the name of all general surgical instruments and has a general knowledge of their use.
• Knows specialty instruments and can assemble and prepare specialty items.

• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.
• Must be able to follow directions.
• Must be able to operate equipment.
