Job summary

UNC Health Care coordinates orientation, staff development and continuing education for the Sterile Processing Department. The role supports design and implementation of SPD improvement projects and ensures adherence to regulatory standards and safety guidelines.

Based in Chapel Hill, this full-time onsite position focuses on developing training plans, updating manuals and assessing competency of preceptors to ensure quality orientation for new staff.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required.
• Education may be substituted with relevant experience at a rate of two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education.
• Sterile Processing Certification required.
• Three (3) years of SPD experience including at least one year in a senior role serving as a preceptor.

Responsibilities

• Assists staff in design and implementation of SPD performance improvement projects.
• Provides education to staff on regulatory standards and compliance, current sterile processing practice issues, and safety standards.
• Maintains and updates all orientation manuals and skills checklists.
• Contributes to sterile processing policy development.
• Creates individualized training plan for all new employees. Conducts weekly assessments of new employees and adjusts orientation training schedule as needed.
• Assesses competency of preceptors to ensure they have the knowledge and skill to assist with orientation of new employees.
• Coordinates in-service schedule for new instruments, continuing education, etc.
