Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, Michigan, seeks a Lead Sterile Process Technician to perform and oversee decontamination, sterilization, packing, and distribution of surgical instrumentation and equipment. The role supports quality, safety, and inventory management within the sterile processing department.

The position is full-time with daytime hours (8:00 am–4:30 pm) and on-call responsibilities; certification by CBSPD and a completed sterile processing program are required or preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification as a sterile processing technician by CBSPD is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment.
• Monitors wash solutions to ensure quality for decontamination.
• Sorts mismatched instrument sets and makes them available to customers.
• Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory of instruments and equipment.
• Performs environmental maintenance and assists with inventory control in sterile processing and OR areas.
• Verifies equipment functionality and coordinates maintenance or replacement as needed.
• Supports adherence to department policies, safety, infection control, and quality standards.
• Performs additional related duties as directed.

Sterile Process Technician Certified Lead

Position Summary: Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
2. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
3. Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
4. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
5. Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
6. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
7. Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
8. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

1. Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
2. Contributes to performance feedback, hiring decisions.
3. Ensures standards are met (quality, timeliness, customer service, etc.).
4. Evaluates and tests new procedures/processes.
5. Orients and/or trains new staff.
6. Problem solving capabilities.
7. Subject matter expert/technical leadership.
8. Work flow/distribution of work.
9. Assists in assuring compliance with all regulatory and other agency requirements, laws, and statutes pertaining to the operation of the department

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of approved sterile processing course and certification as a sterile processing technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Preferred:

• Prior experience in sterile processing preferred.
• Actively enrolled in approved sterile processing course with defined completion date.
