Role Description

Our local Bergen County office seeks part-time, STEM Tutors based in and around Ridgewood, NJ focusing on supporting students in all levels of math (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, Pre-Calc, Calculus, Statisitics and the sciences (physics, chemistry primarily). Flexible part time in-home local tutors, responsibilities include providing one-on-one tutoring in core math subjects and science courses, reinforcing classroom learning, and helping students prepare for quizzes, tests, and exams. Important is to support students staying on top of their assignments, HW and planning study time. Executive function skill development.

The tutor will assess student strengths and areas for growth, develop individualized lesson plans, and track progress against academic goals. Sessions will typically take place in students’ homes or local libraries in the NW Bergen County and parts of Passaic County areas, with occasional virtual sessions as needed. The role also involves clear communication with families and Tutor Doctor of North Jersey staff to align on expectations, schedules, and student progress.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong subject matter skills in Mathematics and/or the Sciences with the ability to explain concepts clearly at multiple grade levels.
• Candidates should possess effective in-person Tutoring and Online Tutoring skills, including experience planning lessons and adapting instruction to different learning styles.
• Candidates should possess excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with students, families, and the Tutor Doctor team.
• Ability to tutor math (all levels) and science subjects (such as general science, biology, chemistry, or physics) at middle and high school levels and college level.
• Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in an advanced degree program in a STEM field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, science, education) preferred.
• Prior experience working with school-age learners, including coaching study skills and executive function strategies, is an advantage. Warm, patient demeanor is a priority.
• Reliable transportation to student locations in the Ridgewood and surround area with availability for afternoon, evening, or weekend sessions.
• Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment and maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality at all times. Commitment to stay for the entire school year at a minimum is important.
