Job summary

Atkore International in Harvey, IL is seeking an experienced Slitter Tech for the 2nd shift to set up and operate the slitting lines, move stock, load mills, and ensure coils meet exact specifications.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of experience in slitting steel within a fast-paced manufacturing environment; lean manufacturing experience is a plus. Must pass a post-offer drug screen.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment involving slitting steel.
• Lean manufacturing experience or knowledge of a business system is a plus.
• Ability to pass a post-offer drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Move stock to and from the slitters.
• Load the tube mills.
• Operate cutting torches.
• Set up and operate slitter to produce slit coils to specifications.
• Check master coils for correct gauge and record any visual defect.
• Continuously observe slitting and rewinding operation to shut off quickly, if necessary.
• Fill out necessary tags, production and other reports accurately.
• Load/unload master coil and slab coils from slitter.
• Notify supervisor when knives need sharpening.
• Perform minor maintenance repairs and assist Maintenance Department in major repairs when needed.
