Job summary

Agate Steel is seeking a Steel Project Engineer to coordinate projects, manage document control, track RFIs and create schedules/submittals with clients and contractors. The role provides technical support for fabrication processes.

The position requires understanding of codes, strong communication, budgeting, and leadership. Proficiency with Tekla EPM, Trimble Connect, BlueBeam and MS Project is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline or 5 years steel fabrication experience.
  • At least one year of experience in engineering is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate action plan and cost estimates for materials, time, labor and resources.
  • Review structural plans and designs.
  • Maintain logs (RFIs, Drawings, Submittals, Contacts).
  • Assess vendor capabilities and resources.
  • Coordinate detailing, fabrication and erection schedules.

Job description

Steel Project Engineer

Wage Range: $60K- $90K DOE

The Project Engineer will coordinate, provide document control, track RFIs, create schedules and submittals with Clients and 3rd party contractors for assigned projects. Further, the Project Engineer will serve as technical support for the shop for an efficient Fabrication Process.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with project staff to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labor, and other resources required to complete multiple concurrent projects from project initiation to close-out. This includes identifying and troubleshooting fabrication issues that arise.
  • Facilitates and contributes to the review of structural plans and designs.
  • Maintain logs such as RFIs, Drawings, Submittals, Contact List, etc.
  • Assess the competence, capabilities, & resources of vendors.
  • Coordinate detailing, fabrication, & erection schedules to ensure dates & client expectations are met.
  • Participate in cost reviews and technical support of project cost to original estimates.
  • Analyzes equipment, systems, & processes to identify modifications to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs for fabrication & erection.
  • Assists in the preparation of periodic progress and cost reports for leadership.
  • General knowledge of applicable codes & guidelines required to properly communicate steel construction to clients.
  • Familiarity and continuous learning of software systems such as Tekla EPM, Trimble Connect, ViewPoint Team, BlueBeam, Microsoft Project, and more.

  • Preferred Skills/Abilities:
  • Familiarity with Trimble Solutions.
  • Basic understanding of AISC & AWS guidelines.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline required or at least 5 years of Steel Fabrication experience. Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in engineering is strongly desired.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to traverse yard & construction sites.
