Job summary

Logistec in Houston seeks a TheChecker to accurately record cargo movements, including discharge, stow, and loading for steel cargo such as pipe, tubing, coils and flats. Outdoor work with exposure to weather is normal; an active TWIC card is required.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in shipping/receiving and at least 1 year handling steel cargo, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Must be reliable and safety-focused.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of shipping and receiving experience (warehouse/yard/stevedoring).
• At least 1 year of direct experience handling steel cargo (pipe, tubing, coils, flats).
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Commitment to safety and quality standards.
• Proven dependability and ability to work independently.
• Proficient in basic math and recordkeeping with a tablet/scanner.
• Willingness to work extended hours, including holidays and weekends.
• English reading/writing; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Count, inspect, sort, identify, and record storage locations for all discharged cargo from vessels.
• Count, inspect, sort, identify, and record stow locations for all cargo being loaded onto vessels.
• Load and unload trucks and rail cars.
• Receive and ship cargo to and from the yard.
• Load pipe trucks directly and sort cargo by PO, reference number, etc.
• Mark and measure cargo dimensions.
• Maintain written tallies and records.
• Utilize tablet and scanner for recordkeeping.
• Assist in training Checker I and II personnel on steel cargo handling.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
