Job summary

Oahu Transit Services in Honolulu is seeking a Maintenance Steam Cleaner to retrieve vehicles for steam cleaning and address contamination in engine compartments, wheels, and undercarriages. The role requires operating steam cleaning equipment, applying correct cleaning agents, and adhering to safety protocols under supervision.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or trade school, plus two years in automotive or heavy equipment, and the ability to understand written and verbal work

Responsibilities

• Retrieve vehicles for steam cleaning where contamination is present (grease, oil, chemicals).
• Perform routine steam cleaning of components (engine parts, brake shoes, undercarriage, etc.).
• Follow safety procedures and use appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
• Report to section leadman and complete tasks on schedule.

Job description

Essential Functions for the Position:

Under the general direction of the section leadman, retrieves vehicles or equipment for the purpose of steam cleaning areas that are affected by grease, oil or other chemical contamination (i.e., engine compartment, undercarriage, battery compartment, wheelchair-lift assembly, etc.). Also performs routine steam cleaning of soiled vehicle or equipment components (i.e., brake shoes, engine parts, transmission assemblies, etc.) and other related duties as directed.

Special Knowledge & Skills:

• Must be able to preplan daily work schedule to include vehicle (bus) preventative maintenance tracking and scheduling. Knowledgeable in fueling, servicing and cleaning of transit vehicles.
• Must be knowledgeable of commercial cleaning agents and methods of application.
• Must be up-to-date on steam cleaning equipment and current safety procedures.
• Must be capable of understanding written as well as verbal work orders.

Education, Training & Experience:

• Must be high school or trade school graduate.
• Must have two (2) years' practical working experience in the automotive or heavy equipment field.

Other Job Requirement & Conditions:

• Must have a valid Hawaii State driver's license with a clean traffic abstract, and must be able to pass State of Hawaii D.O.T. driving requirements for a "Type B" commercial driver's license.
• Must successfully pass Company-administered written examinations.
• Must be able to meet standard physical requirements needed to operate steam clean equipment, consistently negotiate stairs, and submit to, and pass, Company-sponsored medical examinations and random drug testing.
• Must have complete assortment of personal tools with knowledge of their use in performing the job.
• Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent work performance and attendance records preferred.
• Must be willing and able to work various shifts, holiday duty as assigned, overtime as directed and adapt to days off as specified.
