Responsibilities

  • Teach Statistics in the Math Department.
  • Develop purposeful, well-organized classes to engage students in the learning process.
  • Utilize a variety of resources and teaching techniques to reach students with different learning styles.
  • Design student assignments and activities to ensure knowledge of fundamental skills and content.
  • Develop and communicate clear course and classroom expectations, syllabi and daily assignments.
  • Schedule time for individuated extra help with students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan for and deliver the Academy’s program.
  • Utilize Academy resources and technology in lessons.
  • Forge personal relationships founded on trust and common purpose with students.
  • Correct final exams, calculate grades, and write end-of-term comments.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators.
  • Engage in professional growth by pursuing development opportunities.

Job description

Deerfield Academy, a private coeducational boarding school founded in 1797 and annually serving approximately 650 students grades 9-12, seeks a Statistics Teacher with a start date of approximately November 1, 2026 - May 28, 2027 during Winter - Spring Terms as a leave replacement.

Responsibilities

The primary classroom responsibility will be teaching sections of Statistics in our Math Department.

  • Teach classes in an academic discipline to maximize student development as informed and ethical citizens via creative and effective best practices in teaching, conveying positive reinforcement and respect for each student;
  • Develop purposeful, well-organized classes to engage students in the learning process;
  • Utilize a variety of resources and teaching techniques to reach students with different learning styles and to help all become independent thinkers and collaborative learners;
  • Design student assignments and activities to ensure knowledge of fundamental skills and content, and to foster creative, critical thought, providing constructive feedback on a regular basis;
  • Develop and communicate clear course and classroom expectations, syllabi and daily assignments;
  • Schedule time to allow for individuated extra help with students;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan for and deliver the Academy’s program, to share pedagogy, and to seek continual growth;
  • Utilize Academy resources and technology applicable to their fields, incorporating them into lessons;
  • Forge personal relationships founded on trust and a sense of common purpose, provide opportunities for each student to take pleasure in learning, develop confidence, learn from mistakes and build on accomplishments;
  • Correct final exams, calculate grades, and write end‑of‑term comments for each one of their students at the end of each term;
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators in order to best serve the needs of all;
  • Engage in professional growth by pursuing professional development opportunities and staying abreast of current trends in their fields.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience teaching Statistics in some setting
  • Possibility to teach additional courses in Math
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canvas Learning Management System, and other basic classroom technologies
  • Interest in and demonstrated skill working with adolescents
  • Demonstrated multicultural competency and commitment to inclusivity
  • Excitement for continued professional growth
  • Enthusiasm for developing and aligning shared approaches to student learning

Working Conditions

Salary Range

$22,500 - $35,000 Dependent upon experience and number of sections taught.
