Position Summary

Temple University's School of Medicine is searching for a Statistical Analyst/Programmer in the Center for Biostatistics & Epidemiology, LKSOM. The role will provide statistical programming, research consultation, and educational support to faculty and trainees. General direction and oversight will be provided by the Center Director and faculty.

The overall responsibilities focus on comprehensive statistical support for study design, data collection, analysis and interpretation for clinical trials, retrospective studies, epidemiology, and bioinformatics research, and summarizing results for publication. The incumbent will serve as a senior programmer to support faculty research collaborations and provide independent statistical consultations.

Benefits

Required Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field and at least one year of experience with statistical analysis and/or statistical programming in a medical research field using SAS or Stata (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to make independent biostatistical judgments and decisions.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills in SAS, MS Office and related database software.
• Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly organized, detail oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Education and Experience

• PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field.
• Three to five years of experience in a statistical consulting role; additional experience with SQL, Stata, EPIC, REDCap, R, other statistical packages and MS Access.

Essential Duties

• Independently advise on study protocols, including development of research objectives and outcome measurements.
• Meet with trainees to advise on complex data preparation, management needs, research question specification, program design and testing.
• Develop, conduct and interpret descriptive and inferential statistical analyses for investigational study data.
• Customize and test data collection tools such as REDCap and MS Access for specific study applications.
• Assist with correcting data errors and maintain documentation in a database for consistency in decision making.
• Develop statistical program specifications under direction of senior faculty and modify programs to apply appropriate statistical techniques.
• Collaborate with faculty to analyze large datasets, including combining and transforming data from EPIC or CMS into analytical databases.
• Develop and implement standardized quality and logic checks to validate data accuracy and conduct basic statistical analyses.
• Offer solutions to optimize scope and precision of statistical results and strategy for dissemination, including conference abstracts, posters and manuscript preparation for publication.
• Provide technical support to faculty, staff and students regarding software issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
