Hourly Pay Range

$35.16 - $54.50 – Determined by candidate’s experience and other factors.

Position Highlights
  • Stationary Engineer

  • Location: Swedish Hospital - Chicago, IL

  • Full Time, 40 hours/week

  • Hours: Monday‑Friday 11:30 pm‑7 am

General Summary

To perform preventative maintenance, urgent, corrective, and routine repairs in electrical, mechanical and HVAC equipment. Diagnose system malfunctions on mechanical, electrical equipment, HVAC power generation, plumbing, medical gas systems and building structures as required.

What you will do
  • Perform requisitioned, corrective, emergency and preventative maintenance of electrical distribution.

  • Define problems, analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Interpret and operate various electrical metering devices.

  • Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

  • Diagnose system malfunctions on mechanical and electrical equipment by reasonable working experience and knowledge of mechanical and electrical theory.

  • Perform all assigned duties with little or no supervision.

  • Read blueprints, interpret instructions and repair specifications, record all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on equipment or system.

  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance according to established procedures, including:

    • Inspecting, calibrating, adjusting, lubricating, repairing or replacing components.
  • Repair or service more complex equipment and respond to all calls for emergency repairs.

  • Maintain records of all repairs.

  • Assist in evaluating new equipment for purchase and installation.

  • Monitor work performed by outside contractors to ensure requirements are met and results are documented properly.

  • Make environmental adjustments via computer and physical inspection of problem areas.

  • Clean and maintain all assigned areas of responsibility, including painting, replacement of burnt‑out lights and removal of trash in a neat and orderly manner.

  • Perform in‑house projects, develop, evaluate and implement standards of work cost of projects, order needed materials, supplies and parts.

What you will need
  • High School required.

  • 2 years of experience in operation of high‑pressure boiler system and basic HVAC equipment preferred.

  • 1 year of electrical and mechanical equipment and exposure to critical and essential equipment.

  • 1 year prior experience with computer operations and programming helpful.

  • Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineer license required.
