Job summary

Vicinity Energy in Baltimore, MD seeks a Stationary Engineer to safely operate boilers, ancillary equipment, and multiple chilled water processes to meet comfort cooling needs at customer sites and the distribution system.

The hourly full-time position reports to the Operations Manager. Compensation is $49.94 per hour with a 10% bonus target.

Qualifications

• Maryland First Class Stationary Engineer's License required.
• Minimum five years of experience operating stationary or marine boilers.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe working conditions and report or correct unsafe conditions.
• Perform duties per Company operating and safety policies.
• Lead or assist Control Operator, overseeing personnel and equipment.
• Control/monitor steam and chilled water systems, boilers, and distribution systems.
• Oversee fuel oil and natural gas transfer/storage.
• Write work orders for equipment repair.
• Maintain clear, precise operation records.
• Oversee operations during peaking/remote watches.
• Communicate effectively with customers and supervisors during backshifts/holidays.
• Perform maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
• Ensure completion of prescribed records and logs.
• Comply with environmental regulations including outfalls and tower blow down.
• Seasonal assignments to other facilities.

Summary

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for safely, reliably, and efficiently operating boilers, ancillary equipment, and multiple chilled water process. The ideal candidate must be familiar with cooling equipment facilities that utilize refrigeration systems and thermal storage to meet the comfort cooling requirements of our customer service locations as well as the distribution system. When assigned watch as Control Operator, the Stationary Engineer oversees the operation of assigned plant(s) and distribution system(s). This is an hourly full-time position. This position is in Baltimore, Maryland and reports to the Operations Manager. The compensation for this position is $49.94 per hour plus a 10% bonus target.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe workingconditions andidentifies andcorrects or reports unsafeconditions in work area.
• Perform assigned duties in accordance with all publishedCompany operating and safety policies.
• Stands watch as LeadControlOperator,ControlOperator, or Auxiliary Operator, as assigned, and oversees assigned personnel, if any, and equipment
• Control, maintain, and monitor pressure, temperatures, and flow of steam andchilledwater systems, including boilers,chillers, feedwater, and distribution system.
• Take effective action to reduce the effect of equipmentcasualties.
• Ability to recognize, report, mitigate orcorrect equipment and system anomalies.
• Controlscooling tower, boiler and feedwater quality, taking steps to assure that prescribed water management procedures are being followed.
• Oversee fuel oil and natural gas transfer and storage at assigned plant.
• Writes work orders for identification and repair of plant equipment.
• Maintain required records of operations in aclear and precise manner.
• WhenassignedaControlOperatorwatch,overseestheoperationsateitherapeakingorremoteplantduringthe watch
• During backshifts, weekends, and holidays, may act as the primary representative forcontact withcustomers and the publicrequiring accurate logging ofcomplaints and resolution of the problems or passing of the information on to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
• Perform assigned maintenance and housekeeping.
• Oversee completion of all prescribed records and logs at assigned plants.
• Ensurecompliancewithenvironmentalregulations,includingproperoperationofsteamplantoutfall(s)aswell ascooling tower blow down.
• May be assigned to other facilities on a seasonal basis.

Basic Qualifications

• Maryland First Class Stationary Engineer's License
• Minimum fiveyearsofexperiencein operating stationary or marine boilers

Preferred Qualifications

• EPA –CFCTechnicianCertification – Universal or Type II and Type III minimum.
• Effective understanding of the principles and regulatory requirements for overseeing operations involving water management quality, outfallcontrols, fuel systems, asbestoscontrols, and metering.

Other Qualifications

• Demonstrated maturity, reliability, and judgement to stand watch as aControlOperator.
• Ability tocommunicate orally and in writingconcerning routine paperwork.
• Must have ability to work extended or rotating shifts if necessary.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb and tolerate heights up to 75 feet and to tolerate confined spaces.
• Ability to lift, maneuver and transport up to 50 lbs. This includes turning valves that vary in weight.
• Ability to work in elevated temperatures.
• Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
