Position Summary

The position supports the organization's communications efforts by providing graphic design, maintaining documents and promotional materials, managing identity standards, assisting with posting online content, developing and editing multimedia content, and supporting various community outreach tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Designs and produces final artwork, graphics and layout for a variety of media (e.g., printed materials, organization reports, presentations, display materials, social media images, website pages, presentations and more), recommending appropriate formats, binding, paper, etc. for the appropriate use and audience while following accessibility best practices and organization identity standards.
  • Maintains the organization’s library of publications, forms, letters and other documents, making regular updates as needed, coordinating reviews of materials and keeping associated metadata up to date.
  • Help with taking photos and editing images as needed and assist with maintaining, organizing and updating the organization’s photo library and identifying photo needs.
  • Support community outreach and internal recognition programs, including providing necessary logos and files for giveaway items and supplies and helping staff events as needed.
  • In coordination with the Communications Manager and Multimedia Content Specialist, manage identity standards, including distribution of logo files and updating/revising logos as needed.
  • Assist with adding, updating and replacing documents, files and other content on the organization’s website and monitoring and posting content on the organization’s social media channels.
  • Coordinate the translation of the organization’s publications, forms, letters and other documents and maintain documents in the requested languages.
  • Serve as a resource for creating accessible digital content and helping remediate documents and other media as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Any one or any combination that equals thirty-six (36) months from the categories below 1 :
    • credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school course work that would lead to a major in graphic/visual arts communication and/or design
      • 60 semester hours equals 12 months
      • 90 semester hours equals 24 months
      • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 36 months
    • work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design
  • Twelve (12) months of progressively more responsible work experience and/or training comparable to that performed at the Graphic Designer Assistant level of this series

1 A Master's Degree in visual design, with emphasis in visual arts communication or a closely related field, meets all minimum acceptable qualifications for the Graphic Designer Associate level of this series.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro, and experience preparing print-ready, web-ready and accessible PDF files.
  • Experience creating, updating, formatting and maintaining forms, letters, brochures, reports, templates and other public-facing communication materials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and/or comparable document-management platforms.
  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility best practices, including WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards and accessible document creation/remediation for PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, forms and related materials.
  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility tools and accessible document workflows, including Adobe Acrobat Pro accessibility tools, color contrast tools and screen reader or assistive technology review.
  • Experience organizing document libraries or digital assets using file naming, metadata, version history, document status, ownership review/approval workflows and archive/retention awareness.
  • Knowledge of brand standards, style guidelines, typography, layout, color, visual hierarchy, plain language and audience needs.
  • Knowledge of print production and digital publishing workflows, including prepress preparation, PDF optimization, proof review and web-ready file preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail, proofreading ability, project organization, collaboration skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines while incorporating feedback constructively.
