Job summary

West Virginia Watch, part of States Newsroom, is hiring a reporter based in Charleston to cover the Legislature, state agencies and statewide elections. The reporter will produce daily and enterprise stories, take photos and share content on social media.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of reporting/editing experience, strong news judgment, flexibility, and the ability to manage ongoing and short-term projects with attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Three years of reporting and/or editing experience (student journalism counts).
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Candidates should have a vehicle to travel throughout the state.

Responsibilities

• Produce regular, high-quality reporting on issues facing West Virginia.
• Generate story ideas with the editor.
• Pursue story leads with self-direction and strong news judgment.
• Meet deadlines with clear communication with editor and colleagues.
• Collaborate with other reporters on projects and share research as needed.
• Establish and expand digital media presence and amplify content on social platforms.
• Take photos and video to illustrate and amplify stories.
